AnimeTrace Browser Extension — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

This policy describes how the AnimeTrace browser extension ("the extension") handles data. It applies only to the extension. It does not act unless you explicitly right-click an image and choose “Recognize with AnimeTrace”.

What the extension does

When you right-click an image and choose to recognize it, the extension reads the pixels of that single image, downscales it, and sends it to the AnimeTrace recognition service (api.animetrace.com) so its anime / Galgame characters can be identified. The result is shown to you on an AnimeTrace tab. The extension takes no action on any other image.

Data we process

Cookies used to load an image

Some images are only visible when you are logged in to the site that hosts them. To load such an image, the extension fetches it with the cookies you already have for that image’s own website. Those cookies are sent only to that same website (the one serving the image) — exactly as your browser would when displaying the image. They are never sent to us, and never to any third party. The extension does not read, copy, or store your cookies.

What we do NOT do

Permissions, briefly

Server-side handling

Once an image is submitted to the AnimeTrace recognition service for the sole purpose of recognition, its handling on the server is governed by the AnimeTrace service terms and privacy practices. Please refer to the main AnimeTrace website for those details.

Changes

We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date above will reflect any changes.
